High blood pressure causes the heart to
work harder than normal, as it has to
expel blood at a greater resistance, this
places greater strain on your arteries
leading to:
-
increased risk of fatal and non fatal stroke
-
increased incidence of heart failure
-
increased incidence of organ damage e.g. kidney, eyes
-
increased incidence of peripheral vascular disease
Exercise helps to reduce blood pressure
in the following ways:
-
lowers your cardiac output both at rest and during exercise through a decreased heart rate
-
reduces your body fat levels and maintains a healthy weight
-
alters your kidney function to increase elimination of sodium
-
decreases your stress levels

There are special exercise considerations to be made for exercisers with high blood pressure that's why at Trimwise health clubs our qualified and experienced staff work closely with you to give you the one on one personal care that you need to ensure you exercise both safely and effectively to lower your blood pressure.
